    Join us under the tent at Fielding Estate Winery for an evening with Uzma Jalaluddin, in conversation with Yvonne Van Lankveld. Uzma will be discussing her brand-new book Detective Aunty.

    Uzma Jalaluddin is a critically acclaimed and bestselling novelist, playwright and teacher. She writes nuanced and entertaining stories about Muslims, South Asians, and Canadians. She is the author of Much Ado About Nada, Three Holidays and a Wedding, Hana Khan Carries on and Ayesha at Last. Her novels have been optioned for film and television including by Amazon Studios and Mindy Kaling.

    Ready to explore the great outdoors but not sure where to start? Let’s Hike! is the perfect introduction for anyone new to hiking. Learn what to pack, how to use hiking poles, and discover local trails to get you started on your journey with confidence. This session is led by Ruth Moffatt from the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club and is generously supported by a Municipal Grant from the Town of Grimsby.

    Bonus: Participants will receive a hiking badge and a beginner’s guidebook to help you take the next steps on your own!

    This program will be offered on Thursday, June 5 and Sunday, June 8. Both programs will feature the same information.

  • Mayor's Walk

    Please join Grimsby Mayor, Jeff Jordan and Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club Certified Hike Leader, Ruth Moffatt, for the Mayor's Walk. This hike will take us from the Lion's Club Pool parking lot, up Gibson Street and up the Iroquoia Bruce Trail and around to the hawk watch area and back down to the pool parking lot. Please expect the distance to be about 4-5km and about 2 hours. The hike up the hill is strenuous and would not be suitable for individuals who are not used to climbing up hill. You are welcome to join us from the parking area at Quarry Rd at the entrance to Beamer Conservation Area, if you prefer. This will bypass the climb up the hill.

  • Battle of Stoney Creek

    Battlefield House Museum & Park, National Historic Site presents the annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek. Discover Canadian heritage and re-live firsthand the thrill and pageantry of the battle that was a turning point of the War of 1812.

    Witness the re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek of June 6, 1813, a significant turning point in the War of 1812. Bring the whole family for period games, demonstrations, historical music and food. Visit the merchants and military encampments and discover traditional pastimes. Tour Battlefield House built in 1789 and explore the 100-foot-tall Battlefield Monument opened on June 6, 1913. The event features Indigenous programming including a narrated ‘Great Peace Game’ of Haudenosaunee Lacrosse prior to each Battle Re-enactment on Saturday. NEW this year is a Drone Light Show at dusk on Saturday that will depict the National Historic Site’s history and interpret the Eagles Among Us sculpture, installed in 2014 to commemorate Indigenous contributions to the War of 1812.

  • Welland Girls Sports Day

    The City of Welland, in partnership with Niagara College, is hosting the third annual Welland Girls Sports Day on Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Empire Sportsplex. Open to girls from 6 to 12 years old, this is a fun and free event to introduce a variety of sports to young girls from accomplished local female athletes and coaches. There will be eight different sports stations for the girls to try out after an initial warm-up and stretch: softball, basketball, beach volleyball, tennis, golf, soccer, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. After lunch, there will be free play time until 2 p.m.

    The facility and all programs are accessible to everyone, and no experience is required. Girls will receive free lunch, free swag and free sports equipment.

    Speeches from local dignitaries, and a tribute from the Welland Professional Firefighters Association Honour Guard, will take place at 1 P.M.
