The City of Welland, in partnership with Niagara College, is hosting the third annual Welland Girls Sports Day on Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Empire Sportsplex. Open to girls from 6 to 12 years old, this is a fun and free event to introduce a variety of sports to young girls from accomplished local female athletes and coaches. There will be eight different sports stations for the girls to try out after an initial warm-up and stretch: softball, basketball, beach volleyball, tennis, golf, soccer, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. After lunch, there will be free play time until 2 p.m.
The facility and all programs are accessible to everyone, and no experience is required. Girls will receive free lunch, free swag and free sports equipment.
